Q

I keep my hair colored. I want to find the cheapest and best way to maintain my roots which are very dark in contrast to my blonde highlights. Also, I have very long hair and I want to keep it healthy, so can I effectively retouch just the roots without pulling color through the ends.
 Anonymous,Charlotte, NC  6/10/2003

A

Thank you for your questions. Answer: In regards to least exp. way to maintain your roots, I recommend a professional color wash on your roots which will lift your natural color a couple of levels or more so that you will not see a big contrast between your dark hair and blonde highlights. This is the best way and least expensive way to maintain your roots without highlighting your hair every 46 weeks. If you would like to schedule a consultation with me, please call 7043679112. Thanks.

Q

Does straightening cause any permanent damage to hair?
 Mike,Charlotte, NC  6/6/2003

A

Thank you for your Question. Answer: No,.....Like any chemical proceedure being done on hair,if the person who is doing the straightening follows the correct proceedure then you should see a beautiful result. However, if the person does follow the correct proceedure necessay for that particular straightening process...then it is possible to damage the hair but NOT permanently. Thanks.

Q

What do you think about gray hair. I'm 38 and I'm getting a lot. Some days I kinda like it... some days I think it makes me look like I'm 100. You think gray hair should always be colored?
 Becky,charlotte, N.C.  6/6/2003

A

Thank you for your question. Answer: Not always it depends upon the individual and how they want to see themselves. Two options: A) you can do lowlites that will add a suttle darker color to your hair. It will blend in with your gray hair while adding some darkness to it. or B)you can have a stylist apply a demipermanent color as per the level or shade that you choose which will provide you with options of going for either the dramatic or suttle look. As your hair grows out, the demipermanent color fades so you don't see a lot of regrowth on your roots like regular permanent color. If you would like to schedule a consultation with me, please call 7043679112. Thanks

Q

I have naturally curly hair and I just recently read the book "Curly Girl...The Handbook" by Lorraine Massey. I am very excited about trying to live with my curly hair. For the past 20 years it has been a huge and unsuccessful job trying to get it to go straight. In the book it mentions that I need a hair stylist that is an expert in cutting curly hair. The book says that most stylists cut hair, curly or straight, the same way. Do you have any suggestions of who I can see in Charlotte NC or maybe what I can tell an average stylist what they need to do to cut my hair correctly? By the way, my curls are considered to be the Bottecelli type. Thanks, Paige
 Paige Hamrick,Charlotte NC  6/16/2003

A

Thank you for your questions. Answer: From having experience of having curly hair myself and working with curly hair, it true that any stylist who has never had experience working with curly hair will have difficulty in acheiving the look you are seeking. The average stylist is afraid of cutting curly hair when it WET because the hair draws up a lot more than straight hair when it is dry. Things to tell to your stylist "NOT" to do to your hair are: No razor cutting, no texturising with texturising shears, and avoid getting dry cuts. I hope that helps you with your question. Q

I am caucasian with uncolored brunette hair. My hair is coarse and wavy. I blow dry it to straighten it currently. I have had relaxers in the past. What is the typical cost for straightening belowshoulderlength hair and how long does it last?
 Anonymous,  6/12/2003

A

Thank you for your questions. Answer: The typical cost for a Japanese Straightener depends hair of the length mentioned starts at $ 650 and up depending upon the thickness and condition of your hair 46 months depending upon how fast your hair grows and how curly your hair is. I personally go 7 months with my hair which is naturally very curly. The information that you gave me regarding having your previously straightened and relaxed indicates that you may need some conditioning treatments as well? If I can help you with any other questions, you can contact me at (Euphoria Salon & Spa) 7043679112. Thank you.

Q

I am interested in getting the Japanese straightner done. I heard that you can't get it done if you have highlights. Is this true? Also, after getting the straightner done, how often do most people have to get "touch ups" done to the hair that is growing out?
 Jenny,Charlotte, NC  6/11/2003

A

Thank you for your question, Jenny. Answer: Not any more. Yes, the system that I use will allows me to perform the Japanese Straightener on hair that has highlites, single process, and double proces. Basically, I can perform the Japanese Straightener on any type of hair. Touch ups are ususally 46 months depending upon the hair growth and curl pattern. If you have any further questions, please contact me at (Euphoria Salon & Spa) 7043679112. Thank you.

Q

I have short to medium length hair. I am interested in the Japanese straightening procedure. My hair is thick and wavy. Would it work for my hair?
 Teresa,Danville, VA  6/11/2003

A

Thank you for your question, Teresa. Answer: Yes, it will work but it depends upon your hair cut being either layered or one length. If you would like to send me a photo, I will have a better idea of how long your hair is and what type of hair cut you have to confirm my answers for you. If you had any chemical process done to your hair, I will ask for a sample of your hair to check the condition of your hair. If you would like to follow up on these answers, please call me @ (Euphoria Salon & Spa) 7043679112. Thank you.

Q

O.k well I am planning on getting the japenese straightening done to my hair.... and I was wondering because my roots are really straight, it starts getting curly like 2 inches past my roots. So when I get this done and when my roots grow in will they still be straight? Or will the straightening cause them to be wavy?
 Elizabeth,Canyon Country, Ca  6/20/2003

A

Thank you for your question, Elizabeth. Answer: No. If your roots are straight, then they will always come in straight. The Japanese Straightener can not change what was given to you naturally by mother nature, but I do have a recommendation. Since your roots are already staight, I recommend that you have the Japanese Straightener done about 1 1/2 inches away from the scalp so that you hair does not look too flat to your head. If you have any questions about this suggestion, then you can email again and I will go into further detail with you. Thanks.

Q

I have very short hair that grows fast. It is dark brown. I have been highlighting it which I like. The problem is that my roots show in 4 weeks and I would like to find a solution to hiding my roots at least a couple weeks longer.
 Anonymous,Charlotte NC  6/20/2003

A

Thank you for your question. Answer: In order not to have such a big contrast between your natural dark brown hair and highlights, you can lift your regrowth (roots)about 1 to 3 levels lighter and this will difuse the line between the highlights and your regrowth (roots). If you would like to come in for a FREE consultation, please call Euphoria Salon & Spa @ 7043679112 to schedule an appointment with me. Thank you.
